It may come as a surprise to many of our readers to learn that the Right to Life Association of WA does not support the ‘life saving’ legislation being introduced by South Australian MLC Sarah Game.

On the face of it, the fight against abortion in South Australia is in desperate trouble. Proposed limiting legislation is being or has been defeated and the hearts and minds of most South Australian parliamentarians, in both the upper and lower house, have turned to stone. They simply don’t care that children are dying in their thousands as a result of the pro-abortion legislation they, or their predecessors, have passed.

Sarah Game is a relatively new parliamentarian. She is an Independent but was formerly with One Nation. This is not a problem although it is a little unsettling that loyalties can change so quickly. It could lead one to believe that the gaining of a parliamentary seat is the priority, rather than the witnessing of the truth. However, this author chooses not to believe that and in any case perhaps the two goals go hand in hand. Perhaps.

No, the problem is with the legislation itself.

Sarah Game proposes to limit the availability of abortion to 22 weeks and six days gestation. This will therefore save the life of children in the womb who are older than that threshold.

It sounds great, doesn’t it?
It sounds like we are saving lots of children with this legislation, and we would be.

We must also remember that Sarah Game and the pro-life lobby in South Australia are desperate. They are probably thinking that this win is better than no win. Saving some lives is better than condemning all children. And there is some merit in that argument. There are dozens of babies killed in South Australia that are past that gestational age, and the excuse for their death can be the mental health of the mother. Yes there is some merit in that argument, and the famous pro-life campaigner Dr Joanna Howe is certainly supporting the legislation, to the point that she helped draft it. And it must be remembered that the Right to Life Association of WA is a great supporter of the efforts of Dr Joanna Howe.

And the fight looks even more desperate when we realise that even the traditional pro-life support in the Liberal party is being eroded. Liberal leader Vincent Tarzia has stated the proposed bill would be “a matter of conscience”. “We’ve released our key priorities for the 2026 election and this is not one of them,” he said

Yes there is certainly some merit in the argument – unless you consider that all human life is of infinite value and therefore one life is of the same value as ten thousand. This means that, like the American Marines who will not leave one of their people behind even if it means many more die in the rescue effort, so too faith-motivated pro-life supporters must not leave any children behind, even if it means more die by the hand of another. The Devil deliberately gives us these impossible choices – but we don’t have to take them.

Sarah Game and her pro-life supporters should be applauded for their efforts. They are fighting hard for life. Sarah has Jewish heritage and was confirmed Catholic, but does not regard herself as religious, and chose to use the affirmation rather than religious oath at her swearing in to office. I don’t know her heart but I am going to assume she is a Christ-motivated person, even if she doesn’t know it yet. The fight for life is ultimately a test of faith – even though many say they fight for life for altruistic or human virtue reasons. And generally speaking those people or organisations who fight for life for other than faith reasons give up the fight in the end.

No, Sarah Game should be applauded.

At the same time her legislation should not be supported. Giving support to that legislation gives support to the killing of all children who have not been in their mother’s womb for twenty two weeks and six days. And we faith-filled, pro-life people don’t leave any child behind. We cannot stop the evil of others by allowing evil ourselves.

No child is left behind.
