As if you didn’t already know…

Readers may recall prior to the recent Western Australian state election that Labour politicians were quoted as saying that babies were never born alive after a failed abortion, let alone left to die. Sanderson was one such Minister. She argued that there was no such concept as a failed abortion. Admittedly it was difficult to interpret what she was saying. Perhaps she was being deliberately misleading. After all, an election was
looming.

Mind you, they have been denying for years and years. This author can recall a WA politician stating – after a query on this topic from Nick Goiran MLC a few years ago: ‘… the mother wanted a dead baby, we are going to give her a dead baby’.

Federal politicians were also being deliberately misleading, or flatly denying, or not answering, on the topic of children born alive after a failed abortion and being left to die prior to their recent election.

So much for the politicians who govern our lives.

But earlier this year Australian Christians Leader, Maryka Groenewald MLC, put a question on notice to the Labor Government on this topic.

She finally got a response and released a media statement circa 8th August 2025:

• Since December 2021, at least eight babies were born alive during abortion procedures and left to die. Groenewald used the phrase ‘at least’ because the Government’s abortion laws mean these cases are no longer reported to the coroner
• The Government has deliberately stopped collecting data on live births during abortion procedures, meaning when a baby is born alive and left to die, the public will never know. This is not just a bureaucratic oversight; it is a calculated decision to conceal the consequences of WA’s radical abortion agenda
• Since 1998, 39 babies have survived abortion attempts, only to be left without life-saving or even palliative care

Other relevant statistics provided by Maryka include:

• In 2024 alone, 25 abortions were performed on girls under the age of 15 in WA, and in that same year 781 abortions were performed on girls aged 15 to 19
• Since 1998, 1,149 babies were aborted following a Down syndrome diagnosis, which is an average of 44 babies with Down syndrome killed in the womb every year

Groenewald stated “Killing babies because they have Down syndrome is eugenics, and it should horrify every decent person in Western Australia.

Maryka said she was heartbroken by what these numbers reveal. She said her resolve to speak for the unborn and defend the dignity of every human life has never been stronger.

The Right to Life Association of WA could not be more pleased to have such a champion for life in the upper house of WA Parliament. She joins Phil Twiss, Michelle Hoffmann, Nick Goiran and others in that Parliament with the same determination to defend life. May we soon have many more such champions in our government.
